Secret History #3

Death by Gerontocracy

A high school lecture on how elderly power shapes the modern world — immigration crises, housing collapse, euthanasia, financialization, and the rise of gerontocracy.

🔥 The Spark

A stabbing in Southport set Britain on fire — but the real story was what people believed, not what actually happened.

The Paradox 悖论
Britain Burns — Over a Lie
Rumours spread online that the attacker was an asylum seeker, an immigrant threatening British safety. Anti-immigrant riots erupted across Britain — cars set on fire, immigrants targeted, protesters clashing with police. The rioters felt righteous, proud to be "protecting their people." But here's the paradox: Axel Rudakubana was born in Wales. He was a British citizen. The whole thing exploded over a story that wasn't even true.
💥 The attacker was born in Wales to Rwandan parents — he was British-born, not an immigrant

📊 Immigration Crisis

Post-COVID immigration spikes across the Western world are transforming demographics at a pace nations have never experienced.

Data 数据
The Post-COVID Immigration Spike
After COVID, the UK, Australia, France, and Germany all saw massive spikes in immigration — and most immigrants are coming from non-European countries: India, China, the Philippines, Africa, and the Middle East. In many British towns, the immigrant population has tripled in the past decade. Some areas now feel more like Casablanca or Cairo than Canterbury.

Canada
Canada: 25% First-Generation Immigrants — and Counting
A quarter of all Canadians are now first-generation immigrants. Native birth rates keep falling while immigration keeps rising. The Canadian government's goal: 100 million people by 2100, up from roughly 40 million today. Most of those new Canadians will come from India and China. At current trends, in 40-50 years, the demographic makeup of Canada will be unrecognizable.
📈 Government target: 100 million Canadians by 2100 · Majority from India and China · Birth rate among native Canadians continues to fall
Politics 政治
Indian Political Power in Canada
In Canada's most recent federal election, 22 people of Indian descent were elected to parliament — out of 343 seats. Chinese-Canadians, despite being more numerous and having lived there longer, have fewer than 10 MPs. Indians come from a democratic tradition — they excel at organizing, debating, and collective action. Former PM Justin Trudeau actively courted Indian community votes. If current trends continue, Indian-origin Canadians could dominate Canadian politics within a generation.
🗳️ 22 Indian-descent MPs vs <10 Chinese-descent MPs · 343 total seats · Indians: masters of democratic organizing

🏠 Cost of Living

Housing prices are skyrocketing while wages stagnate — and the people in power are the ones who benefit.

Housing 住房
Canada vs. America: A Tale of Two Housing Markets
In the United States, housing prices roughly track income growth — it's still possible for a young person to buy a home. In Canada? Completely disconnected. GDP grows modestly while housing prices skyrocket into the stratosphere. The "Canadian Dream" of homeownership is effectively dead for young people.
🏠 US: housing tracks income · Canada: housing detached from GDP · The Canadian Dream of homeownership is dead for the young
Supply 供给
The Supply Paradox: More Immigrants, No More Houses
Here's the strange part: Canada keeps letting in more immigrants, but housing supply stays flat. Why? Because keeping supply low benefits existing property owners. When demand rises but supply doesn't, property values go up artificially. The policy isn't designed for the nation's good — it's designed for the people who already own houses.
📉 Immigration ↑ + Housing supply ≈ flat = Property owners win · Policy serves vested interests, not the nation
Inflation 通胀
CPI Spike: Everything Costs More, Wages Don't Keep Up
The Consumer Price Index — the measure of basic goods like food and shelter — has spiked sharply across the Western world. As immigrants arrive, locals feel their quality of life declining: rent gets harder to pay, groceries cost more, supporting a family becomes a luxury. The squeeze is real, and it's driving social tension everywhere.
📊 CPI spikes across UK, Australia, France, Germany, Canada · Food, rent, and basic goods all significantly more expensive

💀 Euthanasia

Canada's MAID program turned "death with dignity" into something far more disturbing — suicide by government, on a 10-day turnaround.

Who Dies
Poor People Die Because They're a "Burden"
The top reason for MAID approval? Cancer — the most expensive disease to treat. Many cancer patients aren't terminal; they could still live. But they're encouraged to die because they're a "burden on the system." The other major reasons: "loss of ability to engage in meaningful activities" and "loss of ability to perform daily living tasks." The teacher points out: 25 years ago, we believed every life was sacred. Now it's just a cost-benefit calculation.
⚖️ 25 years ago: every life is sacred · Now: how much does this person cost? · Social cohesion → cold arithmetic

💰 Financialization & Debt

The stock market booms while the real economy declines — and the government tells you everything is fine.

Markets 市场
The Fake Economy vs. the Real Economy
Stock markets are booming worldwide. If you bought Amazon in 2008 at $7, it's now around $300. The top 10% of the population owns 90% of all stocks. But real economic productivity — actual work being done, actual goods produced — is going way down. We live in a world where the financial economy flies while the real economy crawls. The teacher calls it bluntly: "We live in a fake world."
📈 Amazon: $7 (2008) → ~$300 (2024) · Top 10% own 90% of stocks · Real productivity: declining · Financial economy: soaring
Debt 债务
$37 Trillion in Debt — and Government Gaslighting
For 200 years of American history, there was very little national debt. Now the US government owes $37 trillion. American citizens owe another $17 trillion in mortgages and credit cards — debt they will never pay off. The middle class is finished. Meanwhile, the government response to economic recession? "It's not a recession — it's a state of transition." The teacher calls this "blatant gaslighting": telling people their own eyes are lying to them. Birth rates are collapsing because young people look at this mess and say: "I'm not having kids."
💸 US government debt: $37 trillion · Private debt: $17 trillion · Government: "It's not a recession, it's a transition" · Birth rates: collapsing worldwide

👴 Who Benefits?

When you ask "who benefits from all these trends?" — the answer is always the same group.

Demographics
The Aging Explosion: Never This Many Old Rich People Before
In 1900, people over 75 were a tiny fraction of society. Now that age group is growing faster than any other. By 2040, the US will have 65 million people over 65 and 15 million over 85. The pension systems were designed assuming people would die around 72 — but they're not dying. Modern medicine can keep a wealthy vegetative patient alive for 20 more years. The longer they live, the more resources they accumulate, the more inequality grows.
👴 By 2040: 65M Americans over 65 · 15M over 85 · Pensions assumed death at 72 — people now live to 100 · 20 years of life support for the wealthy
Power 权力
Gerontocracy: Brain-Dead Senators Who Refuse to Retire
Joe Biden and Mitch McConnell — both in their 80s — were the two most powerful men in America. Biden trips when he walks. McConnell froze mid-sentence on live TV, staring into nothing. Senator Dianne Feinstein died in office at 90 — still working, refusing to retire. Chuck Grassley was still serving in the Senate at 90. These people cling to power until death literally takes them. That's gerontocracy: rule by old people who refuse to let go.
🧓 Biden: 80s, trips walking · McConnell: brain freeze on live TV · Feinstein: died in office at 90 · Grassley: still serving at 90 · They only give up power if they die

🔮 What's Coming

If the world is ruled by reactionary, stubborn, safety-obsessed elderly — this is what follows.

Generations 代际
Young vs. Mature vs. Elderly: Three Mindsets
The teacher breaks down three generational mindsets. Young people are rebellious, creative, and open-minded — they want to change the system. Mature people seek growth, consensus, and gradual progress. Elderly people are reactionary, stubborn, and obsessed with safety — they don't want anything to change. And right now, the world is being run by that third group. We're living in a reactionary, stubborn system designed exclusively around the safety of old people.
🧠 Young: rebellious · creative · open-minded | Mature: growth · consensus | Elderly: reactionary · stubborn · safety-first
