How Evil Triumphs

A high school lecture on transgression, synchronicity, and the philosophy of power — from ritual sacrifice to game theory, from Kant to Dante.

🩸 Ritual Sacrifice

Across civilizations, from the Aztecs to the Romans, ritual sacrifice has been a recurring tool of power — a pattern that persists to this day.

Historical Pattern
Blood Across Civilizations
The Aztecs filled their temples with thousands of human skulls before going to war. The Phoenicians were infamous for child sacrifice. The Romans, despite condemning the Phoenicians for the very same practice, conducted their own form: parading captured enemy leaders through Rome in the "triumph," then strangling them at the Temple of Jupiter. Different names, different rituals — same function: consolidating power through collective transgression.
🏛️ The Romans didn't call it "sacrifice" — they called it the "triumph." But strangling captives at the Temple of Jupiter was ritual killing by any other name.
Strategic Logic
Fighting with a River Behind Your Back
In Chinese military history, the most celebrated strategy is "fighting with a river behind your back" — when a retreating army is pinned against a river, soldiers face a binary choice: drown or fight to the death. That desperation unifies and galvanizes them. The same logic applies to transgression as a tool of power: committing the ultimate taboo eliminates any possibility of retreat. There is no going back. The group is fused together by the shared act — they either prevail as one, or fall as one. The worse the transgression, the tighter the bond.
⚔️ The taboo IS the river. Once crossed, there is no retreat — only total commitment to the group.

🏝️ Monkey Island

A thought experiment: 100 strangers stranded on an island of flesh-eating monkeys — and how they forge language, myth, religion, leadership, and ultimately a hive mind.

Thought Experiment
100 Strangers, One Island, No Escape
Imagine 100 men, ages 15 to 65, mysteriously transported to an island surrounded by infinite flesh-eating monkeys. They come from different countries, speak different languages, share no culture. The center hilltop is safe, but all resources — food, water, wood — are in monkey territory. The situation is utterly hopeless. Yet something remarkable happens: instead of lying down to die, they discover a drive, a purpose, a spirit to fight for each other. First, they develop a common language. Then they begin telling each other stories — stories that coalesce into a founding myth. They come to believe God chose them to save the world.
🌀 Language → Stories → Founding Myth → Religion — the same progression that built every civilization in history.
Leadership
The Boy Who Cut Off His Own Hand
When it comes time to choose a leader, the 65-year-old wise man delivers a brilliant speech full of strategy. Then a teenager — maybe 15 or 16 — steps forward. He says nothing. He holds up his hand, takes out a knife, and cuts it off in front of everyone. Without crying. Without flinching. Who does the group choose? The boy, of course. Ideas are valuable — the old man becomes the advisor. But the leader is the one who demonstrates the greatest willingness to sacrifice for the group. Devotion, not intellect, commands loyalty.
🩸 The advisor has ideas. The leader has scars. People follow sacrifice, not strategy.
Synchronicity
From Brotherhood to Telepathy
After years of fighting, rituals, and shared suffering, these men develop something beyond ordinary teamwork: synchronicity — a hive mind. Like a mother who senses her child is in danger across the ocean, they can feel each other's states without communication. When one wanders off and is attacked, the others know. When monkeys charge a rope bridge, the last man cuts the rope without hesitation — sacrificing himself instantly, like soldiers who jump on grenades. No deliberation, just instinct born from total unity. Then imagine: after 20 years, they're suddenly transported back to the real world. They carry the hive mind, the religion, the rituals. They pass them to their children and grandchildren. Over generations, they become the secret elite — the real power behind the thrones.
🧬 The surface world has presidents and celebrities. The real power belongs to those who share a hive mind forged in suffering — and pass it down through bloodlines.

⚔️ Historical Proof

Sparta's education system, the Sacred Band of Thebes, and Macedonia's conquest — real-world proof that the Monkey Island pattern actually works.

Sparta
Hazing → Mentorship → Graduation by Blood
Spartan boys were taken from their homes at age seven and placed under the control of older boys who beat them relentlessly. No formal education — only hazing. But this brutality built solidarity: the young ones survived only by helping each other. At puberty, each boy was paired with an older soldier (late 20s) as a mentor and lover — building a deeper hive mind through intimacy. Then came graduation: at 18, the young soldier's mission was to hide in the fields at night and slit the throat of a helot (slave) who violated curfew. Human sacrifice disguised as law enforcement. This system made Sparta the dominant military power in Greece — and made everyone else despise them.
🔪 Phase 1: Hazing builds brotherhood → Phase 2: Mentorship builds hive mind → Phase 3: Killing a helot seals the bond with blood.
Thebes
The Sacred Band: 300 Who Feared Nothing
Thebes copied the Spartan system but made it voluntary — anyone could join. They formed the Sacred Band: 300 elite soldiers, all lovers, who served as the spearhead in every battle. Their ferocity was legendary: enemies fled before them. The Sacred Band made Thebes the dominant power after Sparta's decline. What matters isn't the sexual dimension per se — it's the intimacy mechanism. In an era where homosexuality wasn't even a concept (years on campaign, no women), sex between warriors was simply how bonds were formed. The result was a unit where every man would die for every other without hesitation.
⚔️ Sparta forced the system on its elites. Thebes opened it to volunteers. Both produced warriors who treated death as a privilege.
Macedonia
Macedonia Copies, Conquers — But the Sacred Band Refuses to Kneel
Philip II of Macedonia — father of Alexander the Great — learned the Theban system and built the greatest army in the world. In 338 BCE at the Battle of Chaeronea, Macedonia crushed the combined forces of Thebes and Athens. The war was over. But when the rest of the army scattered, the Sacred Band stood alone in the middle of the field, blocking the Macedonian advance so that their comrades could retreat to safety. They did not fear death — they welcomed it. Every single one of them fell where they stood. For them, what mattered was honor, sacrifice, and the brotherhood that transcended survival. That is how you create the greatest fighting force the world has ever seen.
🪦 Macedonia won the war. But the Sacred Band won immortality — dying on their feet, never on their knees.

🎮 Game Theory

Why is cheating the optimal strategy? Why does coordination require secrecy? And why is transgression the ultimate coordination mechanism?

Game Theory
A Million Players, One Winner — Unless You Cheat
Imagine a million people competing for one prize. If you follow the rules, you will never win. Game theory says the optimal strategy is cheating — specifically, coordinating with others while everyone else plays alone. But the moment some players start coordinating, it forces an arms race: two team up, then four, then five. If your coalition is visible, it gets countered. So the real edge is secret coordination — conspiracy. The visible coordination mechanisms — family, religion, race, language — are obvious and therefore counterable. The invisible mechanism, the one no one can detect from the outside, is shared transgression.
🔗 Family, religion, race, language — all visible coordination. Transgression is the invisible coordination no one can detect or counter.
Transgression
Breaking Taboos Creates Unbreakable Bonds
The theory: the greater the transgression, the greater the cohesion, which leads to synchronicity. Start small — a prank, toilet-papering the school. It bonds you because now you share a secret. Then escalate — shoplifting a candy bar. You're terrified; your mother told you stealing is wrong. But when you actually do it, you feel energized, liberated, empowered. Your friendship becomes tighter, more synchronized. Then you keep going, each transgression more addictive than the last. Transgression works because it forces secrecy (anyone who betrays you all go down), it creates empowerment (you feel more powerful than the rules), and it becomes physiologically addictive (each act releases a rush that demands the next).
⚡ Transgression = forced secrecy + empowerment + addiction. The deeper you go, the more cohesive you become — and the harder it is to stop.

🧠 The Philosophy

From Kant's noumena to Hegel's Geist to Plato's Monad to Dante's love — the philosophical framework that explains why transgression "works."

Kant 康德
The World Is Not What You See
Before Kant, the assumption was simple: we absorb reality as it is. Kant destroyed that idea. Our brains are not passive receivers — they are active filters. We add space and time to reality; without our minds, space and time don't even exist. What's "out there" is the noumena — the thing in itself — which we can never directly know. What we experience is the phenomena — reality as filtered through our minds. This has been confirmed by modern neuroscience. But Kant's model creates three unanswered questions: What is the noumena? Who gave us these filters? And if we each see through our own lens, how do we all see the same world?
❓ Three unsolved questions: What is the noumena? → Who created our filters? → How do we share the same reality?
Hegel
Geist: Ghost + Geyser + Gist
Hegel's answer to Kant's three questions is one word: Geist. It's German, and there's no direct English translation — but it's best understood as a fusion of three English words derived from it. Ghost: a parallel reality that exists alongside ours, a spiritual world. Geyser: a force that is constantly expanding, erupting, becoming. Gist: the essence, the core truth of things. So the Geist is a spiritual reality that is constantly expanding and contains the deepest truth. The noumena — the real world — IS the spiritual world, not the material one. The Geist gives us our filters. And because we all see through the Geist, we see the same world.
🌊 Ghost (parallel spiritual reality) + Geyser (constantly expanding force) + Gist (deepest truth) = Geist — the answer to all three of Kant's questions.
Plato
The Monad: Source of All, Layer upon Layer
Where did the Geist come from? Plato and the Gnostics offer an answer. In the beginning there is the Monad — the One, the supreme source, like a spiritual sun. The Monad breathes, and through its vibration creates new beings called diads — pairs of forces. These diads create further layers of reality, each one a step further from the source. Earth — our material world — is the outermost shell, the most distant from the Monad. The Geist, then, is a multi-layered, multi-dimensional world that we access all the time without knowing it. And our purpose? To return to the Monad. Plato says the path back is knowledge — specifically geometry, the secret language of the universe. This is, remarkably, the exact same framework as Hindu and Buddhist cosmology: Nirvana IS the return to the Monad.
☀️ Monad → Diads → Layers of reality → Earth (outermost shell). The same cosmology appears in Plato, Gnosticism, Hinduism, and Buddhism.
Dante 但丁
The Monad Is Love — And Free Will Is Its Greatest Gift
Dante disagrees with Plato's elitism. Plato says only those who master sacred geometry can return to the Monad — an aristocratic path for the few. Dante says that's absurd: the Monad wouldn't create a system accessible only to elites. If the Monad truly loves everyone, it would give everyone an equal path back. That path is love. The Monad IS love. Its divine spark lives in every one of us — it's why mothers love children, why friends sacrifice for each other. The more you love, the closer you return to the Monad. And because the Monad is love, it gives us free will — even though free will can lead to evil. To interfere would mean to take away the greatest gift. But now and then, the Monad sends messengers — Plato, Dante, Jesus — to remind us that the divine spark exists within, that we can activate it and reach a higher consciousness. Whether we listen is our choice.
💫 Plato: "Study geometry to reach God." Dante: "Anyone can reach God — through love. Not everyone can do calculus, but everyone can love."

🔮 How Power Works

Evil is the denial of the spiritual world. Transgression allows the powerful to lock onto the same frequency in the Geist — creating synchronicity that rules the world.

Evil
Evil Is Denying That Anything Exists Beyond the Material
In this philosophical model, evil has a precise definition. The Monad is truth, is love. Moving closer to the Monad is good; moving further away is evil. Earth — the material world — is the outermost shell, the furthest point from the Monad. So the more you embrace ONLY the material world, the more you deny the spiritual world, the more evil you become. This is why, in Plato's view, even art and movies are suspect — they are shadows of the shadow world, making the prison feel more real. And this is why the powerful need science: science validates only what can be seen and measured, negating the spiritual dimension entirely. "If you cannot see it, it must be fake." Science becomes the intellectual prison guard of the material world.
🔬 Science doesn't just ignore the spiritual world — it actively validates the material prison. "If you can't measure it, it doesn't exist" is the creed of the powerful.
Power 权力
Locking onto the Same Frequency in the Geist
The Geist is multi-layered — it contains benevolent forces and malevolent ones. Think of it like the internet: millions of websites, each a different frequency. Through transgression — through performing the same evil ritual — the powerful lock onto the same "website" in the Geist. They tune into the same frequency, which produces synchronicity: they think alike, act alike, coordinate without visible communication. This is why secret societies practice their rituals. They genuinely believe it releases "divine energy" — and within the logic of this model, it does, except they're accessing the lower, darker layers, not the Monad. Meanwhile, they maintain the illusion that only the material world matters. They deny the Geist to everyone else while secretly exploiting it themselves. That is the architecture of power.
📡 The powerful deny the spiritual world to everyone — while secretly exploiting it themselves. That is the architecture of control.
The Geist
Where Do Our Thoughts Come From?
Neuroscience will never ask the most basic question: where do our thoughts come from? We all have the same neurological structure, yet we have wildly different ideas. Biology cannot explain why one person overflows with ideas while another has few. The possibility: our thoughts come from the Geist, and when we think, those ideas flow back into it. It's a ghost — with us and not with us at the same time. This would explain why Plato in Greece, the Hindus in India, the Buddhists in East Asia, and Dante in medieval Italy all arrived at the same conception of the universe — not by copying each other, but by receiving the same truth through the Geist. Different people, different eras, different continents. Same insight. Coincidence, or confirmation?
💭 Same neurological hardware, wildly different ideas. Same spiritual truth discovered independently across civilizations. The Geist is the simplest explanation.
Caveat
"These Are Tools, Not Truth"
The teacher repeatedly emphasizes: this is a class of speculation and theorizing. These ideas are not presented as truth — they are intellectual tools to help understand how the world might work. "Do not take this as gospel." The frameworks of Kant, Hegel, Plato, and Dante are offered as lenses, not dogma. The value isn't in believing them literally, but in using them to ask better questions: Why does sacrifice create unity? Why do secret groups accumulate power? Why do independent civilizations discover the same metaphysics? The point is not to have answers — the point is to develop the capacity to think about questions that most people never even ask.
🎓 "The entire point of this class is to help you develop the theories and ideas to better understand the world. These are tools. This is not truth."
